ELDER PATRIOT – French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel issued a revealing statement after President Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord.
President Trump rightly cited the lop-sided nature of the Paris accord that never would’ve passed Senate approval if it had been handled as a treaty, as it should’ve been. Many people, in fact, suggested Trump should’ve passed this decision to the Senate to avoid the political fallout that has come his way but, after the healthcare disaster and the foot dragging over budget negotiations Trump had no faith they would do the right thing.
Frankly, Obama’s abuse of his power in personally involving us in the Paris accord without Senate approval was an impeachable offense that feckless Senate Republicans refused to prosecute.
Obama committed nearly a half trillion dollars over the next ten years for initial funding to the global agreement while the other signatory nations committed…get ready…nothing. Zip, zero, nada!
If this sounds an awful lot like the way the freeloading Europeans have handled their obligations to NATO it’s because it is. Merkel, Macron, and Gentiloni have grown accustomed to demanding that U.S.’ presidents direct U.S. taxpayer money to fund the diktats of Europe’s leaders.
Still nothing could’ve prepared Americans for the petulant response contained in the statement that came immediately after President Trump’s announcement. Merkel, Macron, and Gentiloni issued a joint statement declaring:
“We deem the momentum generated in Paris in December 2015 irreversible and we firmly believe that the Paris Agreement cannot be renegotiated.”
Whoa!!! The world is coming to an end and these phonies are refusing to ante up their fair share to save it? Wouldn’t half a loaf be better than none at all?
These people are the direct ideological descendants of Neville Chamberlain who negotiated away half of Europe to Hitler.
These are the same people willing to negotiate away Israel’s right to exist in order to appease the broader Islamic movement.
If the future of the world really is at stake why would they cut off any and all negotiations with us? Wouldn’t rational people continue talking until the lights go out? Isn’t that, after all, what Trump is continuing to do with Kim Jong Un?
The facts that aren’t being contested is that the most that we can affect climate change is 0.3 degrees even with the most draconian economic concessions. Such high costs with so little result smacks of something more.
There’s also this unavoidable fact, China and India have been exempted from all compliance requirements until 2030. If this is such an imminent threat to the world how can that be justified?
Sorry, it can’t be. The fact is the Paris accord is another pact aimed at enriching the global elite is multiple ways.
Those owning the new technologies have been enriched with massive government (that’s your money) tax subsidies to develop and market their products. And those products will cost consumers more per unit of energy than they are paying for fossil fuels.
Then there’s the massive wealth to be gained from transfering as much of the world’s manufacturing base to countries where labor costs are far lower, workers are far more compliant, and there is little to no expectation of a higher standard of living.
Thank God President Trump stood up to these freeloaders and corporate robber barons and defended the interests of the American people. We haven’t seen anything approaching this level of love for Americans since Ronald Reagan.
