If this report from the Washington Post is true, that a big “IF,” then he’s not the man to navigate the treacherous waters of the DC swamp.
Of course, every piece of anti-Trump narrative the WaPo prints has to be weighed against its history of being wrong on Russiagate, tariffs, the economy, and corruption in Ukraine, among just about everything else they’ve published about the 45th president.
(The WaPo) -Attorney General William P. Barr has told people close to President Trump — both inside and outside the White House — that he is considering quitting over Trump’s tweets about Justice Department investigations, three administration officials said, foreshadowing a possible confrontation between the president and his attorney general over the independence of the Justice Department.
So far, Trump has defied Barr’s requests, both public and private, to keep quiet on matters of federal law enforcement. It was not immediately clear Tuesday whether Barr had made his posture known directly to Trump. The administration officials said Barr seemed to be sharing his position with advisers in hopes the president would get the message that he should stop weighing in publicly on the Justice Department’s ongoing criminal investigations.
“He has his limits,” said one person familiar with Barr’s thinking.
Just to remind everyone, Barr took the reigns at the Department of Justice more than a year ago and we have not seen any indication that the corruption that we know exists is being acted against.
During that time President Trump and his associates have been forced to endure endless “leaks” and outrageous sentencing recommendations, as well as the fired higher-ups within the ODNI, the CIA, and the FBI being given platforms on cable news networks from which to attack the president.
And Barr wants President Trump to sit mum, in an election year. Sorry, but it Barr doesn’t understand the president’s need to defend himself against the attacks of every Democrat, leveraged with the full weight of the Beltway Media, then he should seek out a mountaintop where he can blend in with the other snowflakes.
Listen to what President Trump told the gathered media quislings during a “chopper presser’ yesterday:
… We have a great Attorney General, and he’s working very hard. And he’s working against a lot of people that don’t want to see good things happen, in my opinion. That’s my opinion, not his opinion. That’s my opinion. You’ll have to ask what his opinion is.
But I will say this: Social media, for me, has been very important because it gives me a voice, because I don’t get that voice in the press. In the media, I don’t get that voice. So I’m allowed to have a voice….
President Trump is going to cast sunlight on the corrupt political appointees and holdovers that serve as firewalls to protect Washington’s corrupt political construct. He will afford them no niceties just as they have afforded him none.
Barr can either lead or get out of the way.
