You know you’re in deep sh*t when swamp guardian Chris Wallace fillets you on national TV.
Former FBI Director James Comey was skewered by Fox News’ Wallace for the full 16-minute segment as the FNC anchor ran one clip after another of Comey saying one thing and the IG having concluded something entirely different.
Comey may be the master of deception but even for him, trying to sell this level of crap is a massive lift.
Comey: “… As a director, sitting on top of an organization of 38,000 people, you can’t run an investigation that seven layers below you.
Sorry Jim but that dog don’t hunt. The investigation of the Trump campaign was being run in-house, not in a distant field office.
“You have to leave it to the career professionals to do, to the special agents who do this for their lives.
“And if a director tries to run an investigation, it will get all mucked up in all different kinds of ways given his or her responsibilities and the impossibility of the work that’s being done at the lower levels.”
This wasn’t an investigation of a bank robbery in Sioux Falls. The FBI was actively spying on the future president of the United States. It appears the significance of that didn’t escape President Obama:
Maria Bartiromo asked former Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) for his reaction to Comey’s self-serving, “I was wrong,” mea culpa:
Gowdy: “This morning Comey admitted he was wrong. Sometimes Maria, it’s better late than never and sometimes it’s just too darn late.
“And in this case, Comey is about two years too late.”
“We could have used his objectivity, we could have used him as head of the FBI helping Republicans figure out what was happening with FISA instead of thwarting us and obstructing us…
