Elder Patriot – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has helped Democrats stonewall President Trump’s America First agenda by maintaining artificial cloture rules that the Framers never contemplated. The result of this rule is to give governing authority to the minority party. Nothing gets to the floor for a vote unless the party in the minority – the Democrats – says it does.
This is just the way McConnell wants it. He has a convenient excuse – Democrats – for stalling the Trump agenda when he has the power to put an end to it whenever he want.
This week McConnell sat for an interview with Politico during which he admitted that there was a good possibility the GOP could lose control of the Senate in November. If Dems do wrest control from McConnell-led Republicans it’s on Mitch and Mitch alone.
On a personal level McConnell is threatened by President Trump’s attempts to rein in China’s aggressive and well-funded threat to America’s national security. The Chinese threat comes from two sources that McConnell has nurtured during his time in the Senate and that he is determined to keep open.
The most obvious is the USA’s sorely unbalanced trade with China that enriches the Red Menace with our nation’s wealth to the tune of more than half-a-trillion dollars annually. Coupled with China’s theft of intellectual property from U.S. companies our strategic technological advantages have been greatly diminished .
McConnell has fostered China’s economic and military emergence to occur under his watch. For the reason we need only to look to his wife, Elaine Chao whose family’s business is the source of McConnell’s wealth.
Chao’s father founded Foremost Group, a shipping company that does “large volumes of business” with Chinese state-owned companies. In other words, play ball with Chinese demands or lose their shipping contracts.
McConnell is not unlike the ruling majority of Senators from both sides of the aisle who are beholden to foreign interests for their wealth or because they hope to someday be similarly enriched.
Investigative journalist Peter Schweizer has done extensive research for his book “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends.”
Schweizer’s research exposes how politicians engage in “corruption by proxy” by exploiting family and business ties to enrich themselves and their relatives.
We spelled out the reason behind McConnell’s anti-Trump agenda the day after Trump was elected president. Sadly, we have been proven more right than wrong over the ensuing time.
McConnell can still prove me wrong by advancing as much of President Trump’s pro-America agenda as humanly possible. If that takes cancelling the August recess then so be it. He has only himself to blame for the glacial pace the Senate has moved at anyways.
If McConnell fails to deliver then it’ll time for Republicans to change their Congressional leadership. Let’s give President Trump the support he needs to make America great against this November. If we don’t we’ll have only ourselves to blame.
