It’s clear that certain influential political leaders and scions of industry have no interest in doing their patriotic duty to the rest of us if it also reflects well on President Trump.
Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, is a member of the Trump resistance. She has also proven to have no sense of patriotism… or even loyalty.
Remember when Barack Obama bailed GM out with $50 Billion in TARP funds? You’d think GM’s management would feel a sense of gratitude towards the American people. You thought wrong…
Despite mainstream media reports that GM paid that loan back in full, it didn’t. In 2014 the U.S. government admitted to losing $11.2 billion on the deal.
What happened to the rest of the money that GM “borrowed” from taxpayers to save the jobs of its overpaid workers?
GM invested it in new manufacturing plants in…China. GM added four, state of the art manufacturing plants in China at a cost of, you guessed it, $11 billion.
Not then, not in 2018:
And, not now…
CEO Mary Barra forced President Trump to invoke the Defense Production Act because it has become necessary to compel GM’s compliance with manufacturing lifesaving ventilators. Valuable time was lost relying on CEO Barra’s initial promise.
(WHITE HOUSE) – Statement from the President Regarding the Defense Production Act:
Today, I signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to accept, perform, and prioritize Federal contracts for ventilators.
Our negotiations with GM regarding its ability to supply ventilators have been productive, but our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course. GM was wasting time. Today’s action will help ensure the quick production of ventilators that will save American lives.
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (50 U.S.C. 4501 et seq.) (the “Act”), it is hereby ordered as follows:
… Sec. 2. Presidential Direction to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (Secretary). The Secretary shall use any and all authority available under the Act to require General Motors Company to accept, perform, and prioritize contracts or orders for the number of ventilators that the Secretary determines to be appropriate.
Here’s my promise, I will never buy another GM product… not ever… not never!
Mary Barra has shown us the worst of the rise of the multinational corporations. Think long and hard whether this is the future you want for your children…
