ELDER PATRIOT – The appointments of Stephen K. Bannon and Kelly Ann Conway to prominent positions in the expansion of Donald Trump’s campaign staff has put the entire Washington establishment on notice that he is serious about returning the government to working for the people of this country and not for the benefit of the special interests that have enriched our political class and their families so greatly.
The Washington insiders hoping for a “pivot” in his campaign were served notice by Trump in Wisconsin on Tuesday night. He could not have been clearer about why he decided to risk everything to run for president:
“It is time for rule by the people, not rule by special interests.
“Every insider, getting rich off of our broken system, is throwing money at Hillary Clinton. The hedge fund managers, the Wall Street investors, the professional political class.
“It’s the powerful protecting the powerful.
“Insiders fighting for insiders.
“I am fighting for you.
“When we talk about the insider, who are we talking about? It’s the comfortable politicians looking out for their own interests. It’s the lobbyists who know how to insert that perfect loophole into every bill. It’s the financial industry that knows how to regulate their competition out of existence. The insiders also include the media executives, anchors and journalists in Washington, Los Angeles, and New York City, who are part of the same failed status quo and want nothing to change.”
This has been the D.C. elites’ greatest fear since he announced his candidacy.
He left no doubt that those fears have been well-founded when he served notice on Republican members of this corrupt self-serving governing cabal that he will, indeed, be running against down ballot candidates within the party who have been more concerned about their personal benefit than that of the constituents who they took an oath to serve.
“Every day you pick up a newspaper, or turn on the nightly news, and you hear about some self-interest banker or some discredited Washington insider says they oppose our campaign. Or some encrusted old politician says they oppose our campaign. Or some big time lobbyist says they oppose our campaign.
“I wear their opposition as a badge of honor. Because it means I am fighting for REAL change, not just partisan change. I am fighting – all of us across the country are fighting – for peaceful regime change in our own country. The media-donor-political complex that’s bled this country dry has to be replaced with a new government of, by and for the people.
“The leadership class in Washington D.C., of which Hillary Clinton has been a member for thirty years, has abandoned the people of this country.
“I am going to give the people their voice back.
“Think about it. The people opposing our campaign are the same people who have left our border open and let innocent people suffer as a result.
“The people opposing our campaign are the same people who have led us into one disastrous foreign war after another.
“The people opposing our campaign are the same people who lied to us about one trade deal after another.
“Aren’t you tired of a system that gets rich at your expense?
“Aren’t you tired of big media, big businesses, and big donors rigging the system to keep your voice from being heard?
“Are you ready for change?
“Are you ready for leadership that puts you, the American people, first? That puts your country first? That puts your family first?”
Trump never differentiated between Republicans or Democrats. In his eyes corrupt is corrupt regardless of party affiliation, and he let it be known that it would not be tolerated when he wins the White House.
Essentially Trump gave them an option, get on board or get run over.
The inside the beltway establishment had been hoping to convince Trump to “pivot” to run a more “presidential” campaign. Translation – become a milquetoast a la Mitt Romney and embrace the status quo promising the little people an extra lump of coal in their Christmas stocking.
But, Trump didn’t become a billionaire by thinking small and he isn’t running for president of the country he loves so that he could trim around the edges. Trump made his money by buying dilapidated properties that he alone believed held great potential and then turning them into highly successful reclamations.
This is what Trump sees in the United States, a country where every American will be unbridled and given the chance to participate in rebuilding our past greatness. And, in the process, the chance to restore pride in them selves, their communities, to re-awaken a dormant work ethic, and to renew the uniquely American principle of self-determination.
This is a winning message and, following decades of declining wages, job losses, economic dislocation and a shrinking middle class, it’s the message Americans have been waiting to hear. Trump let the world know he is not running to protect the corrupt Republican half of Washington’s political elite but as a populist running to protect the people of every political party who simply want the opportunity for a better life.
Trump realizes that if he runs and wins on an aggressive platform of ending corruption he will enter the White House with a mandate from the people that the political class will be forced to recognize, something no one since Ronald Reagan has been willing to fight for.
On Tuesday night in West Bend, Trump told the world in no uncertain terms that he would not be playing ball with the elites. Like Kennedy and Reagan before him he promised to be the peoples’ representative in Washington.
The appointment of Bannon and Conway was Trump’s way of telling the entrenched corrupt influences in and around our government that he is indeed pivoting, but it’s not in the direction they were praying he would. Trump has decided that with less than three months until the election the time had come to stare them directly in their collective eye and tell them their days are numbered.
