An Open Letter to Donald Trump

Dear Donald,

I will not mince words, there’s no time for that.   It’s time to put your ego aside and stop answering every personal attack that is levied against you.  Having been born and raised in Brooklyn I know how difficult that can be but it’s now time to trust Mike Pence, Rudy Giuliani, et al to handle the attacks for you.  You’ve proven you’re the guy we want in our foxhole fighting alongside and for us.  We get it. 

You are absolutely correct about Hillary Clinton’s corrupt history and her likely intention to use the office of president to enrich herself as well as to bring our once great country to heel.  But, what you ignore when you get in the gutter with her is that her one path to victory is to shape the public’s perception of you as more despicable than she is.  I know that seems impossible to you but she has a compliant mainstream media helping her.  And, they are succeeding because you can’t or won’t control your ego and stop providing them with soundbites for her coming billion-dollar advertising blitz.

It is important that you use the remaining time leading up to this election to elevate yourself into “Presidential Mode.”  Hillary Clinton is incapable of matching your capability to do this.

Please remember you are carrying the hopes and prayers of tens of millions of Americans with you who remember what it was like to live in a free and prosperous America. We know the promise that the restoration of our Founding Principles holds for the happiness and prosperity of all Americans and we are counting on you to restore our collective faith in those principles just as Ronald Reagan did 36 years ago when all seemed lost at that time.

There is, and always will be, a common trait that all of America’s great leaders from George Washington to Ronald Reagan shared, humility.  It is imperative that you study and embrace this most fundamental of Judeo-Christian tenets.   

Polls show you own the issues of greatest concern to the vast majority of Americans.  From immigration, to the Syrian refugee crisis, to the trade deals that have crippled our economy, to the devastating effect Dodd-Frank has had on our entrepreneurial sector, you have outlined a bold agenda designed to return our country to the control of the governed.  Hammer her on these issues.  To the widest swath of Americans her policy proposals are downright threatening. 

You have thirty-five days left to convince the American people that you don’t seek the presidency as a resume enhancement but rather as a call to duty to turn back an out of control government that is on the threshold of permanently surrendering our freedoms and prosperity that so many sacrificed so dearly to preserve for us from 1776 to this day.

It’s time to stop saying only you can do it.  With the proper humility, you would do better to say only you have shown the will to challenge the elites and to put America, and Americans, first again.

I am not supporting you because you are a Republican.  And, I would not support you if you were a Democrat.  You and I both know that you represent an existential threat to both political parties because you have exposed the fraudulent political gambit of an oligarchy not representative of the people they were elected to serve.  It is an oligarchy that has defrauded the American working men and women of tens of trillions of dollars for the benefit of foreign entities, global corporate interests, and international bankers.

I am supporting you because your message is about what’s best for America and Americans.  You ran through the Republican opposition by espousing the issues that truly matter to the people of this country.  That is what the Founders of our representative democracy envisioned – a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people.

But, you can earn a place among our great presidents only by getting elected, and rolling around in the gutter with Mrs. Clinton only distracts the voters’ attention from her weaknesses; the issues, and her inability to look presidential and above the fray.

Until you embrace the humility required of a man that God has chosen for this moment you allow Hillary to run away from the issues, and not be held to answer to the American people either for her past failures or in what ways they will benefit from increased levels of immigration, the Syrian refugee crisis, and more global trade treaties with nations that pay their workers a fraction of what workers in America earn.  She cannot answer how raising taxes can lead to greater prosperity for those being taxed.

Please Donald, it’s time to listen to Kellyanne Conway and prepare for the next debate like an entire county’s future depended on it, because it does.  You cannot be embarrassed again.  You cannot pass on opportunities to expose the failed policies and the failed character of Hillary Clinton again.

We are counting on you today as we counted on Ronald Reagan after he warned us about the consequences of surrendering our freedoms to the elites of a different time:   

“This is the issue of this election: whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

“You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I’d like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There’s only an up or down: [up] man’s old — old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. And regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.”

Reagan’s speech was called a time for choosing.  It’s as prescient today as it was at that time, not just for the people who will decide this election, but for you.  Are you willing to act like a president 24/7/365?
