Elder Patriot – NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has led the NFL to the “Gates of Ratings Hell” and it appears he is prepared to kick them open, as well.
Adding to the league’s declining attendance and ratings, a new Facebook group of more than 200,000 disgusted NFL fans is planning an NFL boycott over Veterans Day weekend:
“We will be not be watching or listening to NFL games on November 12th in solidarity with veterans around the country, as football players have continued to disrespect the national anthem, the American flag, and everything our nation stands for,” it says on the Boycott The NFL Facebook page.
“Until millionaire football players stop protesting the National Anthem of the United States, we’ll be here.”
NFL ratings started eroding last season when Colin Kaepernick started a one-man protest during the National Anthem but they have been in free fall this season as the disrespect for our flag and our anthem spread to hundreds of over-privileged players.
Members of the Boycott The NFL Facebook page weren’t shy about expressing their outrage:
One user posted: “I refuse to participate in an event that disrespects the United States of America. I despise anyone who disrespects those that have fought and those that gave their lives for our freedom. Keep taking a knee NFL and you will lose what fans you have left”.
Another wrote, “Enough is enough. Politics and sports do not mix. This is a reminder of the Olympics boycotts in the 70’s. Not the proper forum for protests. Fans cannot relate to million dollar crybabies. Get back to the work of entertainment”.
“I gave up the NFL after watching the first ‘kneel’ this season. I am done; I thought it would bother me, but College Football keeps me entertained. They allowed this disrespect to go on too long,” another wrote.
There’s something untoward about millionaire athletes who would’ve never gotten into college if they weren’t physical freaks lecturing the rest of us about social justice.
The NFL owners are losing a bundle because of Goodell’s political alignment with the far left social justice warriors. Goodell is allowing players to violate the standards of conduct that he instituted in 2009 at the behest of Barack Obama.
Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has had enough of Goodell and is leading an effort to block renewal of Goodell’s $45 million annual salary. The question is why any other owners are standing in defense of Goodell?
Perhaps the recently released Senate tax reform proposal to end federal tax subsidies for the building of new stadiums will get the owners’ attention. It could strip as much as $6.5 billions dollars from the owners who are already experiencing an epic decline in revenues.
It’s really disgusting when you think about it. All the lost revenue is based on the refusal to stand in respect for two minutes and twenty seconds. You would think the offending players would understand they are hurting our veterans. After all, they are asking everyone else to consider who they might be hurting.
