Elder Patriot – Leftists are intent on separating President Trump from his Evangelical base by trying to embarrass them into admitting that they’re supporting a president who is a sinner. That’s precious considering the pass they gave to America’s first known serial adulterer, Bill Clinton.
Now they are trying to shame us? Please.
Host Alex Witt asked Reverend Franklin Graham if the president has “a sin problem.” Graham spoke for Christians everywhere with his answer:
“I can promise you, he is not President Perfect…and I don’t think I’ve seen a President Perfect yet.
“He’s not a perfect person, and neither am I.”
Witt kept pushing and tried trapping Graham by asking a question without having done her homework. She walked straight into a trap of her own making.
Witt: “If he were a Democrat, you would be as forgiving?”
Oops, shouldn’t have gone there.
Graham: “Sure. Under President Obama, I prayed for him.”
Reverend Graham was on solid footing when he said that, too. Following Obama’s reelection in 2012, in a Thanksgiving prayer, Graham delivered this message to his supporters:
“Having just come through a divisive national election, I am urging pastors across this country to lead their congregations in praying daily for our president, Barack Obama … for wisdom, Divine guidance, and that God would accomplish His will and purposes.”
“While politics is noticeably partisan, prayer must never be partisan. Americans need to come together, and people of faith should lead the way, by praying diligently for our leaders, whether or not they agree with them or their policies.”
Graham had asked for prayers for Obama even though he had previously been targeted by Obama’s IRS. Both Graham and his Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse were targeted with IRS audits because they wouldn’t support Obama due to his stance on abortion and same-sex marriage.
Both Graham and Samaritan’s Purse got the same IRS audit letter on the very same day. That was hardly a coincidence. Needless to say Graham said that the audits cost him a small fortune to defend.
No president can bridge the divisive policies of Barack Obama in a year or two but it will take people of faith with good intentions in their hearts.
Graham understands this that is why he defends Trump because Trump has done more to protect religious liberty than any other president in modern history. The reverend told Fox News Sunday that Trump has done more to defend Christianity than any president in his lifetime:
“I find him to be a person concerned about the religious freedoms of Americans, but not just us here in this country, but he’s concerned about the religious freedom of people in other countries.”
Trump has empowered these people who share goodwill towards all to take on the difficult task that lies ahead.
This may be hard for Witt and other liberals to understand, not so for us. That is why they will fail to separate Trump from our support.
