Gun Violence in Texas: The Real Story is Six Seconds

By now you already know that there was another church shooting.  This one in Texas.

Houses of worship make for easy pickings for mass shooters because the targets are praying and focused forward… away from the shooter’s point of entry.

Democrats tell us that the only answer is to get rid of guns altogether.  How they plan to disarm criminals and deranged mass shooters is never explained.

The best example liberals have is Chicago where possessing guns legally is darn near impossible.  According to data compiled by the Chicago Tribune through December 22, 2019 there have been 2,664 shooting victims in the windy city this year… so far.

Those numbers don’t stop authoritarians looking to disarm law-abiding Americans everywhere else in the country from continuing a rhetorical assault on gun ownership.

Given that estimates put the number of firearms in the United States at more than  three million, no one realistically expects guns to magically disappear from society.  Especially in a country where Democrats refuse to lock down our borders?

The real story, at least for those who are confronted with a shooter is how quickly can the shooter be neutralized.

In Parkland, FL. Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS is a gun free zone.  When deranged gunman Nikolas Cruz opened fire, students and teachers were at the mercy of first responders.

The men who were paid to protect the students huddled outside rather than put themselves at risk.  All the while the shooter was engaged in a killing spree and the body count was growing larger.

An immediate response from the police would have saved lives.  An even more immediate response from someone inside, when the shooter first showed his firearm would have saved even more lives.

In June, Texas Governor Greg Abbot, a Republican of course, signed a bill into law allowing Texans to carry guns into places of worship.

After Governor Abbot signed it, the Democrats’ leading presidential candidate trashed the governor for being “irrational.”

Biden: “It is irrational, with all due respect to the Governor of Texas, it’s irrational what they’re doing. … And we’re talking about loosening access to have guns? Being able to take them into places of worship, store them in schools, it’s just absolutely irrational.”

Uh, huh.  The new law was put to the test on Sunday morning.

A shooter opened fire at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. Six seconds later he was dead because a legally armed member of the congregation responded immediately.

The gunman was able to shoot two people before he was killed.  Six seconds = two victims. Which congregant would have been next?

What if the police took thirty seconds?  Would there have been 10 victims? What if the response time was five minutes?

Let Texas’ Department of Public Safety Director Joeff Williams answer that question:

“The citizens who were inside that church undoubtedly saved 242 other parishioners, and that might get swept aside in this whole conversation about active shooter response.

God knows law enforcement has done a whole bunch of work to make our response better.

We’re starting to find out that, as the Lieutenant Governor mentioned, over half of these are over before we get there…

…The true heroes in all this are the people who were sitting in those pews today and responded, the immediate responders … it was truly heroic.”

“A nation of heroes, not sheep”
