ELDER PATRIOT – In an earlier column about how Carlos Slim is using his ownership of the NY Times to protect Mexico’s drug cartels, we posited a broad theory outlining how the corporate mafia uses their ownership of the MSM to obscure criminal activity and report it as nothing more than an ideological fight in the defense of Globalism.
In other words the Left-Right paradigm propagated by the MSM is an artificial construct to obscure corporate greed and tyrannical government.
In Facebook’s case its censorship of conservative websites is all about corporate greed, not ideology. Facebook’s censorship cannot be denied. We have the metrics to prove it.
Years ago we used Facebook to reach between 4 and 12 times as many of our website’s friends with our posts as Facebook allows us to reach today. This contraction has occurred despite the fact that our group has more than doubled since those early days.
Additionally, we’ve spent hundreds of thousands of dollars contracting with Facebook to grow our pages since that time. We also continue to experience substantial organic growth on our own.
So what gives? After all, this is no way to treat your business partners. Unless, of course, you have much broader growth plans that require this shoddy treatment of your existing customer base.
The Washington Post reported about a Pakistani Man who was sentenced to death for ‘blasphemy’ on Facebook, yesterday. This was not a one off occurrence.
According to the WaPo:
“The Pakistan government has launched a crackdown on alleged defamation on social media in recent weeks, with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan threatening to block all social media websites with “blasphemous content” on May 23.”
Faced with losing access to 200 million Pakistanis – and the potential profits that comes from such a large market – Facebook chose assist the Pakistani government and censor moderate voices that have been using their platform.
In March, Breitbart reported that Facebook was even assisting Pakistan in removing “blasphemous” content from its platform.
The Pakistani market is only a sliver of the broader Islamic market that Facebook eyes as a financial windfall.
For Facebook, if access to a market requires accepting – and spreading – principles we find abhorrent, then so be it. This includes fueling the reach of radical Islam and the terrorism that is results.
Facebook’s disregard for principle isn’t restricted to their desire in maintaining continued access to the Islamic market halfway around the world. The social media powerhouse is censoring responsible content right here in the United States.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg “has cultivated relationships with China’s leaders, including President Xi Jinping. He has paid multiple visits to the country to meet its top Internet executives,” according to reporting by the NY Times.
Zuckerberg knows that to gain access for his social media network to China’s 1.1 billion person market he’ll need to play by China’s rules. That means accepting China’s Internet censorship rules.
In fact, the Times reported that “The social network has quietly developed software to suppress posts from appearing in people’s news feeds in specific geographic areas, according to three current and former Facebook employees, who asked for anonymity because the tool is confidential. The feature was created to help Facebook get into China, a market where the social network has been blocked, these people said. Mr. Zuckerberg has supported and defended the effort, the people added.”
In order to prove themselves to China’s leaders, Zuckerberg has agreed to restrict traffic to conservative websites through the use of highly sophisticated algorithms.
This was confirmed by “anonymous sources at Facebook’s news team who confirmed it to Gizmodo.
Facebook has weighed the market size of conservatives living in the United States and decided that 1.1 billion Chinese comprise a more significant profit potential.
If Zuckerberg’s efforts sufficiently impress China it won’t be long before the share of Facebook’s revenue coming from China dwarf’s the revenues the company is realizing in the United States. This will give China enormous future influence over Facebook’s future content in the United States, greatly expanding China’s ability to spread propaganda. Considering Zuckerberg’s past history of censorship to influence political outcomes, Americans should be very concerned.
The free flow of information and opinion is critical to maintaining a free society. Already we have witnessed how a vile, corrupt woman came within a whisker of the presidency with the help of the MSM, and limited censorship and promotion by Google and Facebook.
President Trump must do something about this. Americans deserve access to the truth, and opinions, in all of their forms.
