“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” – Ben Franklin
ELDER PATRIOT – Gun controllers have decided to surrender their right to be armed for a misplaced sense of security. That is their choice. It is not mine. And, in a free society everyone has the right to defend himself as he sees fit.
Those who choose to rely on the police for protection do so at their own risk as the partygoers in Orlando learned last Sunday morning. An Islamic terrorist began his shooting rampage at 2:02 am. The police finally stormed the club at 5:05 am.
For three hours patrons remained under siege waiting for help that for far too many never came. One gunman had killed 49 people and injured more than fifty more, some critically, while the police formulated their plan. Every twenty personal handguns spread throughout the crowd could’ve significantly limited the carnage.
The moral of this story is that you, and you alone, are responsible for your own safety. That is why AR-15 owners remain strident in defense of their Second Amendment rights.
While the air was still rife with the smell of gunpowder the gun banners had begun their assault on the AR-15. If they are successful the winner will be Islamic terror. Gay patrons have already paid a severe price. If Americans are deprived of this valuable weapon the only winners from this attack will be the next wave of terrorists who will be able to carryout future attacks with less resistance. Strict bans on the AR-15 in Paris and California did nothing to prevent terrorists from wreaking carnage at the Bataclan or in San Bernardino.
“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
– Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776
Until now, terror attacks have been limited to the actions of a single gunman or, at most, a handful of gunmen making it easy for gun banners to argue that a handgun would have been sufficient to neutralize the attackers. But, what if that scenario were to change? What guarantee do we have that future attacks won’t be conducted by a dozen or more terrorists using military tactics on a door-to-door rampage similar to the way our military cleared Kabul?
With 1.1 million people on the terror watch list and millions of illegal immigrants of unknown character among us, how long will it be before groups of terrorists like the ones showing up to disrupt Trump rallies decide to arm themselves with “weapons of war?”
Freedom loving and law-abiding Americans have the right to organize themselves individually and in militias and to possess the necessary weaponry to defend their person and their property, especially when their president refuses to do so.
This president aided by mayors of his party has ordered the police to stand down while violent protestors attacked an opposing candidate’s supporters. This is the stuff of third world countries. Americans who are politically opposed to this president have previously come under intense scrutiny from the IRS. Second Amendment defenders understand that some politicians will stop at nothing to maintain their power. The AR-15 offers them protection in this event as well.
“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787
As the delayed police response in Orlando taught us, the police are forced to think twice before confronting a well-armed combatant. In the case of law-abiding Americans who are only trying to protect themselves it’s likely the police might make the decision not to act at all. That is what the Second Amendment is all about.
The record is clear, with Americans possessing well in excess of four million AR-15s and less than 100 deaths a year stemming from their use, most of those at the hand of terrorists, the AR-15 offers virtually no threat to our neighbors. That raises the question, why are progressive politicians so intent on stripping them from us? What are they planning?
