Elder Patriot – President Trump made it official today. He has directed the State Department to begin the process of moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
By any measure Trump made the correct moral decision. Virtually every previous president acknowledged as much during their campaigns for president only to shrink from the task when they were given the power to affect the move.
Bill Clinton attacked President George H.W. Bush for having “repeatedly challenged Israel’s sovereignty over a united Jerusalem.” He promised that he and running mate Al Gore would “support Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.” It never happened.
During the 2000 election campaign, George W. Bush promised to move the embassy and attacked Clinton for failing to deliver on his promise. At one point he even said he would “start the process as soon as I’m sworn in.
Listen to Barack Obama in his own words:
He made his position clear when he repeated this promise to AIPAC.
None of them had the balls to do it. Although, in Obama’s case it had more to do with his deep seated animus towards Israel that any other outside influences.
Even Hillary Clinton repeated the lie so often that people became convinced she’d be the one to do it:
As the first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton said she considered Jerusalem to be the “eternal and indivisible capital of Israel” and promised, when she was running for the Senate, to be an active advocate to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
In a letter Mrs. Clinton wrote: “If I am chosen by New Yorkers to be their senator, or in whatever position I find myself in the years to come, you can be sure that I will be an active, committed advocate for a strong and secure Israel, able to live in peace with its neighbors, with the United States Embassy located in its capital, Jerusalem.”
Uh, yeah. Her actions belied her words:
Not so for President Trump who once again proved he is a man of his word. In the process Trump confirmed the United States’ commitment to the long term survival of the only democracy in the Middle East and the only nation where people of all faiths can worship in peace.
In response “furious” Palestinians set fire to American and Israeli flags promising more days of rage ahead. Really? Isn’t that a lot like crying wolf? When don’t they burn the flags of the “Little Satan” and the “Big Satan”? Wait, I know the answer to that, when they’re busy blowing up Israelis.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked President Trump for his “historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” and then promised, “The Jewish people and the Jewish state will be forever grateful.”
In announcing the move, Trump followed in the footsteps of President Harry Truman, who defied the State Department and the global foreign policy establishment when he recognized Israel immediately after it had declared independence. By recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital moving the U.S. embassy there, 70 years after the U.N. partition vote and 100 years after the Balfour Declaration, is now the ultimate affirmation of Israel’s founding vision.
The sad truth is the Israelis are the only ones that can be trusted to protect the antiquities of all of the great religions that claim Jerusalem as their birthplace.
Netanyahu took time to promise “Israel will always ensure freedom of worship for Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike.”
Check this off the list of campaign promises that Trump has kept. At this rate he’s going to be out of promises by New Years Eve.
