VIA| Former CIA Director Michael Morell believes that the reason the Obama administration refused to bomb and destroy ISIS oil wells is because of the possibility of “environmental damage” in the Middle East.

Discussing his former boss’ concern for the environment prior to the November 13th coordinated terrorist attacks on Paris, Morell said that there’s “now a sense of urgency that there wasn’t before.”

He told PBS’s Charlie Rose in an interview aired last week:

“Prior to Paris … there seemed to have been a judgement that, look we don’t want to destroy these oil tankers because that’s infrastructure that’s going to be necessary to support the people when ISIS isn’t there anymore and it’s going to createenvironmental damage.

And we didn’t go after oil wells … actually hit any oil wells that ISIS controls because we didn’t want to do environmental damage and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure…

So, now we’re hitting oil in trucks, right? And maybe you get to the point where you say we have to hit oil wells. So those are the kind of tough decisions you have to make.”

Morell added that while he may no longer be privy to Obama’s inner circle, he personally believes that the commander-in-chief’s concern for environmental hazards was too restrictive.

According to a poll released shortly after the Paris attacks by ABC News, 54% of Americans disapprove of President Obama’s handling of terrorism, with 43% of them strongly disapproving:

Those numbers jump to 57% and 46%, respectively, when asked about ISIS specifically.

Nonetheless, another poll released shortly before the Paris attacks found that more voters attribute the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq in 2011 to the growth of the Islamic State than the start of the initial war in 2003:

Morell also suggested last week that anyone in the U.S., including those in small towns, should be worried about an ISIS-led domestic terror attack.

Obama’s former CIA director isn’t alone in disagreeing with him on his strategy towards ISIS. Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates also lambasted his approach toward ISIS during an interview with “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
