Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Confirms that John Kerry Violated the Logan Act

Elder Patriot – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared on Fox and Friends this morning where he was asked about the legal implications of John Kerry’s unauthorized diplomatic relations with, and on behalf of, Iran and whether he violated the Logan Act.

18 U.S. Code § 953 is commonly known as the Logan Act:

“Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”

Pompeo: “It’s true. I mean I was there in Munich when I saw not only Kerry, but Wendy Sherman [who served as Under Secretary of State for the Obama administration]…  the whole gang that crafted that terrible deal, they were there, they met with the Iranian leadership.”

“It’s unusual, and more importantly, it’s wrong.  Every American should support America’s foreign policy.  They had their moment. They had their day. It’s time to get off the stage.”

“We all know the Logan Act.  We all know the risk that is taken when private citizens act on behalf of the United States.”

Brian Kilmeade: “What is John Brennan doing briefing Democrats on Iran for?”

Pompeo:  “You’ll have to ask the Democrats.  I mean this is the man who directed the CIA at the time that this terror regime grew.  I couldn’t tell you why they were looking to him for expertise on this issue.

It wasn’t expertise that Democrats were looking for.  It was a damage control briefing at they try to distance themselves from Obama’s strategy of detente first, followed by a full alliance with Iran throughout the Middle East and North Africa.”
