ELDER PATRIOT – Last night Bill O’Reilly actually said, “It’s all over for the mainstream press.” If only he were right.
The segment on Fox News Channel begins with Denzel Washington not so subtlety excoriating the press:
“We don’t care who it hurts, we don’t care who it destroys, we don’t care if it’s true. [You’ll] just say it and sell it. Anything you practice you’ll get good at, including BS.”
The corruption and use of a nation’s media to control the people and advance the government agenda has been the domain of insincere politicians since its advent.
The great American philosopher Mark Twain noted this more than a century ago when he said, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.”
The Nazi Party’s manipulation of the mainstream media allowed them to gain power over the German people.
The Nazis’ chief propagandist Joseph Goebbels explained the strategy:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Political control of the media had been effective until technology created platforms that allowed new voices to be heard and both sides of every argument to be aired.
It started when Rush Limbaugh used the floundering AM band on radio to launch talk radio. Bill Clinton was president at that time and he wasted no time in accusing Rush for spewing hatred in support of the “far right.” Clinton was determined to undermine Rush’s legitimate defense of our Founding Principles by citing facts that the mainstream media had conveniently omitted telling us.
As Clinton feared, talk radio soon became dominated by conservative talkers. He was correct to be concerned that Americans were becoming more informed and the emergence of Fox News Channel, added to the voices on talk radio, proved to be the deciding factor in the 2000 election. Despite leaving the country in a period of relative peace and prosperity Clinton couldn’t pull uber liberal Al Gore across the finish line.
Today the explosion of social media has added a new dimension to the way the majority of people receive their news. Liberals and Globalists recognized the potential that this held first and seized control of Internet before their opponents. And they successfully used it to get Barack Obama elected twice and advance their Marxist and Globalist agenda.
As Denzel said, “the need is to be first not to be true, anymore.”
Today, Conservative Americans have mastered the use of social media and the Internet and while they are still at a major competitive disadvantage in terms of reach and the number of sources, they were able to shine enough light on truth to keep Hillary Clinton from being allowed to corrupt the White House.
Clinton realizes that our ability to disseminate the truth was the mortal enemy of her lie and yesterday she followed in the footsteps of the world leaders she has the most in common with like Adolph Hitler, Angela Merkel, Xi Jinping and Mao by discrediting her opponents as liars and calling on legislators to curtail free speech.
“The epidemic of malicious fake news and false propaganda that flooded social media over the past year — it’s now clear the so-called fake news can have real-world consequences. It’s a danger that must be addressed and addressed quickly,” Clinton said while calling on Congress to decide what is and isn’t truthful reporting.
Compare her reaction to that of our president-elect who faced a vicious onslaught that mischaracterized and flat out lied about him in the most vile and calculated ways. Trump simply pointed out they were his enemy and went around and over them to reach the American people directly. He never called for the government to silence them.
Internationalists and Marxists always seek to stifle free speech because debate is the greatest disinfectant of the truth.
America did well to dispense with Hillary Clinton. Of greater importance moving forward, with Americans’ trust in the mainstream media now in single digits it is clear the media has castrated itself and its influence has almost completely bled out.
The next assault on the free and open press content with letting Americans hear all sides of a debate with confidence that they will come to an informed and proper decision will come from Congress by politicians (like Paul Ryan who is eyeing a presidential run of his own) who are more vested in maintaining their power than in putting Americans first.
The mainstream media is severely injured but it isn’t dead. With hundreds of billions of dollars invested in it the influence of the MSM will still be considerable. Proof of this assertion comes from the 50-plus million people who voted for the seriously flawed Hillary Clinton.
The American Revolution saw a rag-tag band of freedom seekers defeat the most heavily funded military of that time. Two hundred and forty years later America’s sovereignty and freedoms were successfully defended by a rag-tag group of truth-tellers sitting in their gym clothes and typing on their computers.
Isn’t this exactly what the Framers had in mind when they penned the First Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
Our Founding Fathers were well aware that the best means of avoiding violent political upheaval was to let everybody have their say. It’s evident that the Left cannot abide this logic.
