Elder Patriot| Thursday afternoon President Trump finally said ENOUGH to Mexico and he announced he was imposing a 5% tariff effective on June 10th unless our southern neighbor began acting as an ally and not a parasite.
The White House released an official statement moments later outlining a schedule of increased tariffs every month unless Mexico did everything in its power to put an end to the crisis at our shared border:
If the crisis persists, however, the Tariffs will be raised to 10 percent on July 1, 2019. Similarly, if Mexico still has not taken action to dramatically reduce or eliminate the number of illegal aliens crossing its territory into the United States, Tariffs will be increased to 15 percent on August 1, 2019, to 20 percent on September 1, 2019, and to 25 percent on October 1, 2019.
The statement also made clear that the time for negotiating had passed:
If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the Tariffs will be removed.
President Trump has tried playing nice with Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador while never trusting the squirrly Marxist. Trump is nobody’s fool and he’s well aware of prior statements made by AMLO:
(From the Daily Caller) […] “And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said, adding that immigrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.” He then declared it as “a human right we will defend.”
So yesterday the president ratcheted up his rhetorical dismissal of AMLO in a series of tweets:
Trump to AMLO; I’m holding four Aces and you’re holding your pud. Check that, more likely the cartels are holding your pud.
President Trump laid into AMLO again this morning:
Recall that in January 2019, the New York Times reported that Enrique Pena Nieto, the man who AMLO replaced as Mexico’s president, had taken a $100 million bribe from El Chapo to maintain the status quo at our border.
Wondering if any of that money found its way into the hands of… say… American politicians?
Afterall, as the Dems always remind us… people are people. Just asking…
Ya gotta love our president. He isn’t cowed by political correctness. And he sure as hell doesn’t give a shit about protecting the deals Washington insiders have grown fat on.
Now Mexico is faced with building a Wall. It might be on its own southern border but, hey, whatever gets the job done cause the tariffs will remain in place at Trump’s sole discretion and judgment.
A big delegation? More bullsh*t from more bullshitters. If AMLO had a set, or even a leg to stand on, he’d meet with President Trump one-on-one, man-to-man and make his case. He doesn’t have either.
AMLO should have saved the airfare and asked for a list of Trump’s demands. What’s he possibly got to offer Trump that can change these dynamics?
President Trump already has the best taco bowls located in one of his own properties:
