Opinion| Marxist freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is proving to a prime example of why socialism has always failed.
Despite the best intentions of those who implement the system – if their intentions are indeed pure – the line of leadership succession cannot be guaranteed.
That is why socialism has never failed to devolved into totalitarian governance following the election of a “do as I say, not as I do” strongman.
Now, the New York Post has reported that Ocasio-Cortez has unpaid taxes dating back to 2012:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to pass sweeping tax hikes on the wealthy, but the freshman lawmaker might want to take care of her own unpaid tax bill first.
Brook Avenue Press, a company she founded in 2012 to publish children’s books in The Bronx, owes the state $1,870.36 in corporate taxes, public records show.
Keep in mind this is the same Ocasio-Cortez who chased Amazon out of NYC because they were poised to get a $3 Billion tax break for creating 25,000 well-paying jobs in an area of the city that sorely needed revitalization.
Amazon was projecting generating $27 billion in tax revenues. Unfortunately, AOC didn’t seem to grasp the fact that the city would be out the remaining $24 Billion (over ten years) if Amazon pulled up stakes, which they did.
Ocasio-Cortez, the self-proclaimed economic genius from Boston University, thought she could spend the $3 Billion dollars where she thought best. She had no idea there would be no $3 Billion to distribute according to her desires.
This is not a person with the intellectual baseline in economics who should be trusted with running a small business – acknowledged by her inability, or unwillingness, to repay the $1870.36 in taxes in the past six years – let alone dictating policy in the world’s largest economy.
For those who think AOC has good intentions understand the reasons why she undermined Amazon’s massive development project.
One reason Amazon made the decision to cancel its plans to build an entire corporate campus in New York City came after Ocasio-Cortez and other left-wing activists and politicians demanded that the company advance their immigration agenda by not cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
If this isn’t the stamp of a Marxist strongman in waiting, then you probably shouldn’t be trusted to vote.
To permit business opportunity based on political ideology is what defines political strongmen… and in the case of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a political strongwoman.
As for Ocasio-Cortez’s self-declared empathy for her fellow man, save it. She’s up to her eyeballs over the emerging scandal of her misuse of campaign finance laws that benefited her political allies.
Gordon Gekko said greed is good. In an economic and political system that offers the common folk some degree of control over greed it is. Not so in a totalitarian government.
The great economist Milton Friedman schooled liberal Phil Donahue in just over two-minutes about the role that greed plays in determining the distribution of wealth.
“The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus.”
“The record of history is absolutely clear that there is no alternative way so far discovered of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by free enterprise”

Remember, Nancy Pelosi gave this avowed socialist a highly prized seat on the Financial Services Committee. She should be forced to explain why.
