Elder Patriot – The mainstream media’s all out assault on President Trump has called into question just what the role of the media is supposed to be. A recent exchange between State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert and CNN’s Michelle Kosinski put into focus the role the media now plays in American politics, and it’s a far cry from the “Free Press” necessary to maintain the well-informed electorate that the Framers envisioned and that the maintenance of our freedoms requires.
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Kosinski had taken exception to the president’s consistent labeling of CNN, among other news outlets, as “fake news:”

“You had a whole lot to say about press freedom, basically speaking to the world on that. So when the President of the United States and those around him repeatedly say the words ‘fake news,’ isn’t that disinformation?”
Nauert rejected Kosinski’s premise:
“We’ve discussed this as well. You and I have had many exchanges on this, and that’s part of the beauty of a free press and the beauty of a First Amendment when people can say what they want. You don’t have to agree with it, others don’t have to agree with it, but that is certainly within [Trump’s] own right to do.
“When we look at the absence of a free press in other countries we look at what those countries are doing to journalists and that is something that we do not see here in the United States.
Nauert then went on to list the risks some real journalists have been taking and cited those journalists from Turkey and Afghanistan as examples.
Kosinski who can mete out the attacks but can’t take return fire from her target gave this crybaby response:
“So because that’s not happening here, the White House lying and saying ‘fake news’ is a better deal?”
The fact is CNN is clinging to a lie, the lie that they actually report in a responsible manner. The network’s ratings are in the tank because no one finds them credible any longer. Americans are smart enough to recognize the truth after they’ve heard all sides. So why do they continue peddling a false narrative when it is costing them a bundle? And, who is willing to pay for these losses and why?
First this reality that may explain Ms. Kosinski’s question if she hasn’t already figured out what’s going on.
“If you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people.” – Virginia Woolf
The truth is CNN is only one member of the mainstream media unable to tell the truth about how their reporting is bought and paid for by those with agendas that require the obfuscation of the truth.
According to Amber Lyon, a three-time Emmy award winning journalist, CNN routinely accepted money from the US government and foreign governments to selectively report on certain events. Furthermore, the Obama administration paid CNN for editorial control over some of its content.
Then there was this slip of the tongue and admission by Mika Brzezinski on the Morning Joe show that was a result of her growing frustration over her inability to frame the president’s words because of his use of Twitter to avoid that.
Brzezinski’s father was one of the world’s original globalists and she apparently believes it’s her job to continue shilling for those elites. The younger Brzezinski actually complained that Trump’s use of Twitter and his contentious press conferences “could have undermined messaging so much that he can actually control what people think, and, that is our job.”
That is very telling and, recently, NBC’s Chuck Todd echoed the same frustration while discussing the president’s tweeting and what he believed to be overly aggressive responses to the network’s false narratives during an episode of Meet the Press.
The answer to the great divide between truth and mainstream news reporting was explained as far back as 1975 during hearing of the United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities, that became known as the Church Committee, named after its chairman Iowa Senator Frank Church. Ironically enough, Church was interviewed at that time on Meet the Press.
CIA Director William Colby admits, and it was confirmed by the head of CBS news, that the agency had members of the print and broadcast media on its payroll. Have we grown so naïve as to believe that control over the media hasn’t been extended and strengthened since then?
Think about the current “fake news” crisis that is really an attempt to discredit Internet sites like ours because we threaten their control of the narrative and listen to what Senator Church warned AmericanS about 43 years ago:
“In the need to develop a capacity to know what potential enemies are doing, the United States government has perfected a technological capability that enables us to monitor the messages that go through the air. (…) Now, that is necessary and important to the United States as we look abroad at enemies or potential enemies. We must know, at the same time, that capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left such is the capability to monitor everything—telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide.
If this government ever became a tyranny, if a dictator ever took charge in this country, the technological capacity that the intelligence community has given the government could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back because the most careful effort to combine together in resistance to the government, no matter how privately it was done, is within the reach of the government to know. Such is the capability of this technology. (…)
I don’t want to see this country ever go across the bridge. I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return.”
This explains a lot, doesn’t it? Why else, how else, could CNN afford to keep losing market share and money and yet continue on the same path? Why would Facebook now reject the profits that came from conservative news sites?
