Elder Patriot – The jousting between China’s Chairman Xi Jinping and U.S. President Trump stopped this morning after the U.S. president responded to China’s escalation of trade tensions.
China levied a new round of tariffs on U.S. goods, and President Trump responded by ordering American companies to find alternatives to Chinese manufacturers.
It’s now officially a trade war.
“Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the U.S.A.”
The president promised to provide insight into his thinking, regarding the new round of tariffs China placed on $75 billion of U.S. goods, this afternoon.
The U.S., because of President Trump’s economic policies, is far better positioned to withstand a protracted trade war while U.S. companies relocate.
Chairman Xi is counting on his ability to force the Chinese citizenry to accept more pain than U.S. citizens will be willing to endure.
XI is counting on his usually reliable allies in the mainstream U.S. media to inundate Americans with pro-ChiCom, anti-Trump, anti-America narrative.
It won’t matter. President Trump has been preparing for this eventuality since his election.
President Trump had already begun restructuring our Indo-Pacific trade alliances in the event China rejected a reset that would result in a fair and open trade relationship.
Late in 2017, the president went on a marathon 10-day tour, meeting face-to-face with the other manufacturing heavyweights of Southeast Asia lining up manufacturing alternatives to China preparing for the anticipated intransigence from China:
At every stop along the way, he broadcast the intent of the visit: “We’re talking TRADE”!
Despite the fact that the President Trump was broadcasting his intentions, the media pundits, either deliberately ignored the strategic reset that the president was formulating, or they were too blinded by their hatred of the president to acknowledge that he actually had a plan at all.
Trump was signaling to the world that China would soon be forced to acknowledge that manufacturing facilities and cheap labor are available across the Pacific Rim. The American consumer can only be found in the United States.
That was two years ago. The financial media pundits told us that American consumers would be punished by the president’s tariffs on China. They weren’t. Trump was right again.
At the same time President Trump was preparing for expanded trade with old, more reliable partners, he was also advancing policies necessary to create the conditions for America’s economic revitalization.
The burgeoning Main Street economy is more than well-positioned to blunt any economic hardships that might follow from today’s actions.
Buckle up. The pro-ChiCom media is about to go into hyper-drive.
