Fact Check: ‘Girl from the Bronx’ Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Grew Up in One of Richest U.S. Counties

Elder Patriot – Hats off to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who pulled off an earth shaking upset in New York’s 14th Congressional District.  The 14th CD is composed of parts of the Bronx and Queens with a voter registration that is almost 90% Democrat.

The incumbent that she beat by 15 points is Joe Crowley.  Crowley had been installed as the representative in the heavily Democratic district in 1998.  Since then he became accustomed to running unopposed as so many downstate NY Democrats do. Still, Crowley was in line to replace Nancy Pelosi as Democratic minority leader if the walking cadaver is ever pushed out of power.

So this was no small accomplishment for Ocasio-Cortez.  How did Ocasio-Cortez do it? She outworked her opponent and did so by representing herself as something that she is not.  Oh, and Crowley sat on his ass and raised money.

You’d think after Hillary pissed away the presidency in that manner, Crowley might’ve done some actual campaigning.  But, nooo.

For her part, Ocasio-Cortez is is a spoiled rich kid who ran by promising everyone everything… paid for by other people’s money.

That, and a miniscule turnout by what we can only conclude are disaffected Democrats in the overwhelmingly Democratic 14th CD (90%) allowed her to manage a 4,100 vote win.

Ocasio-Cortez’s “story” has made her an instant star among Democrats who are thirsting for a youthful candidate they can look to inject new energy into their old, failed platform.  Ocasio-Cortez is definitely that.

Here is a glimpse at just a portion of her Marxist platform.

  • Medicare for all
  • Housing as a human right
  • A federal jobs guarantee
  • Abolish ICE – immigration justice
  • Free college

The list goes on but you get the idea.  She’s a 28-year-old dynamo who combines the worst socialist ideas of Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi.

Cortez won by portraying herself as a tough city kid from the Bronx.  During an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert she actually said:

“Well, you know, the president is from Queens, and with all due respect — half of my district is from Queens — I don’t think he knows how to deal with a girl from the Bronx.”

And then:

“I wasn’t born to a wealthy or powerful family — mother from Puerto Rico, dad from the South Bronx. I was born in a place where your Zip code determines your destiny.”

Word to Cortez, you are no match for Donald Trump.  He’s the only president since Ronald Reagan to stare down world leaders and win.

And, as for your story about being the poor girl with street smarts – well that story might’ve worked for Barack Obama but it won’t work now.  According to Breitbart around the time Ocasio-Cortez turned five:

Alexandria’s architect father Sergio Ocasio moved the family from the “planned community” of Parkchester in the Bronx to a home in Yorktown Heights, a wealthy suburb in Westchester County. The New York Times describes her childhood home as “a modest two-bedroom house on a quiet street.” In a 1999 profile of the area, when Ocasio-Cortez would have been ten years old, the Times lauded Yorktown Heights’ “diversity of housing in a scenic setting” – complete with two golf courses.

The paper quoted Linda Cooper, the town supervisor, describing Yorktown as ”a folksy area where people can come, kick off their shoes, wander around, sit in a cafe, listen to a concert in the park, or go to the theater.”

If Ocasio-Cortez wins the general election she’ll be a low-ranking first-term representative of the minority party with a stated agenda in direct opposition to what is quickly becoming an immensely successful and popular president.

Ocasio-Cortez’s sudden rise as the new hot thing may be good for her but the promotion of her on a national scale may actually work to scare voters in other districts into the arms of Republicans.
