It wasn’t until 1863, when Virginia’s overly aggressive Democrats drove a large portion of their populace to secede, that West Virginia became a state.
History may be about to repeat itself.
Earlier this week, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice invited those Virginia counties opposed to Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s gun confiscation policies to secede and to become counties of WV.
More than 100 of Virginia’s local governments have declared themselves to be Second Amendment Sanctuaries in response to the gun grab being advanced by the completely Democrat state government.
Governor Justice, speaking during a press conference with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell at his side, extended the invitation with these words:
“West Virginia is an incredible state…If you’re not truly happy with where you are, we stand with open arms to take you from Virginia or wherever you may be. We stand strongly behind the Second Amendment, we stand strongly behind the unborn.”
Earlier this year, on January 15th, West Virginia legislators took the first step when they introduced Resolution HRC 8:
“Whereas, In a spirit of conciliation, the Legislature of West Virginia hereby extends an invitation to our fellow Virginians who wish to do so, to join us in our noble experiment of 156 years of separation from the government at Richmond; and, we extend an invitation to any constituent county or city of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be admitted to the body politic of the State of West Virginia, under the conditions set forth in our state Constitution, specifically, with the consent of a majority of the voters of such county or city voting upon such proposition; and we hereby covenant that their many grievances shall be addressed, and, we further covenant with them that their firearms rights shall be protected to the fullest extent possible under our Federal and State Constitution.” (Full text here)
The possibility of this happening has Democrats in a frenzy. Secession here, could open the door to tens of millions of people in states like California and New York, whose politics are dominated by large coastal cities, to follow suit.
This would completely undermine Democrats who have spent the last century working towards consolidating rule on the federal level and, most recently with President Obama’s multilateral trade deals, internationally in a move towards a single world government.
If these Virginia counties were to successfully secede, either because of a desire to protect their gun rights and/or the rights of the unborn, it would increase representation on a more local level and therefore more accountable to the people – all the people – something the Framers were intent on protecting.
In early 2018, Republicans in the eastern portion of California began exploring the possibilities of secession after some Democrats had began establishing ties with Russia and floated the idea of seceding from the U.S. government.
Anarchist Democrats, who were the first to establish sanctuary cities to protect illegal aliens, have only themselves to blame.
