Republican Congressman Louis Gohmert wants to know why the FISA court judge that granted multiple renewals of a warrant to conduct surveillance on President Trump using doctored evidence has not yet ordered those involved held in contempt.
Gohmert who serves on the House Judiciary Committee told his interviewer at the Daily Caller News Foundation:
“I think it’s important to know who the FISA judge was, and why with all the info he’s [or, she’s] had for some time, he has not put anyone in jail for committing fraud on his court.
“You shouldn’t be able to get quotes from Bruce Ohr or [former FBI Director Jim] Comey or [deputy director Andrew] McCabe because they ought to be sitting in jail for committing fraud upon the court.”
Gohmert wants to know why the FISC judge, who by now has reviewed the memo, hasn’t called the DOJ and FBI officials back to court to explain the fact that the dossier that served as the centerpiece of the application was described by then-FBI Director James Comey as “salacious and unverified” during Congressional testimony months after the application had been submitted.
The fact that the judge now knows that dossier was funded by the DNC and the Clinton campaign, as opposition research, but those facts weren’t revealed to him or her, only adds to the concern about the judge’s impartiality.
Adding to concerns about the judge is what has happened since. Or more precisely what hasn’t happened. Special counsel Robert Mueller was granted broad investigative powers close to a year ago and started by reviewing everything the FBI had compiled during the prior year, and he has come up empty.
Gohmert explained his concern about the judge’s handling of this case when he told the DCNF:
“This was an action by the DNC and known collusion with top officials at the DOJ and FBI to commit a fraud upon the FISA court.
“The judge has to have known for months now that he or she had a fraud committed against them and he or she has done nothing. Any judge worth any salt would have called them in for hearings, and he can even order anyone who committed fraud upon the court to go to jail. This judge is either worthless or is in cahoots with those who manipulated it.”
The Texas congressman defended himself and other members of the GOP against arguments that the four-page memo, compiled by House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and released Friday, had exposed methods and sources.
But, that is exactly why the Congress is given oversight in matters like this. They serve as the peoples’ last line of defense against the rogue administration of justice by a corrupt political administration.
In cases like this Congress is the only thing defending the American people from the U.S. becoming a banana republic.
Gohmert feels there is good reason to release all of the underlying evidence because of the gravity of the violations committed by the highest levels of the FBI and the Justice Department:
“The sources were high authorities in the FBI and the Justice Department as well as an uncorroborated hater of Donald Trump.
“I’m totally in support of keeping methods and sources secret, unless it’s a case like this where the sources and methods are fraud, in which case everyone needs to be able to assess that.
Gohmert expressed his alarm that the approval of the warrant ostensibly based on false evidence and court pleadings raises the question of whether others are unfairly subject to surveillance.
“We need to find out if we need to stop the FISA process entirely.”
Keep in mind what these abuses mean to the application of justice. Joseph Stalin employed Lavrentiy Beria as Marshal of the Soviet Union and state security administrator, chief of the Soviet security and secret police apparatus.
Beria was not a man to be questioned. He also was a man who said fondly:
“Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.”
Stalin was intent on establishing a socialist utopia in Russia. To accomplish this he forced millions of people from the countryside to the cities (UN Agenda 21?) and had an estimated three million political enemies executed, exiled or imprisoned in gulags.
Every American who cherishes their First Amendment protection should be concerned that ill-gotten warrant to spy on President Trump was not a one-off occurrence. The Obama administration had applied for and received a reported 30,000 spy warrants for Americans – like you and me.
Just as the IRS was used by Obama to target political enemies we must know if the Department of Justice was equally corrupted. And if it was, the offenders must be prosecuted.
During the presidential campaign Donald Trump warned audiences that the 2016 election could be the last election that mattered. He was right.
