Elder Patriot – The Supreme Court has just released a statement informing the public that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone lung surgery to remove cancerous growths.
Ginsburg reportedly underwent a pulmonary lobectomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after two nodules in the lower lobe of her left lung were discovered following incidental tests that were administered after she fractured several ribs during a fall in November.
On its website, Sloan Kettering describes a lobectomy as the most common operation for non-small cell lung cancer. It is the preferred treatment for “isolated lung cancer in an otherwise healthy patient.”
According to the statement released by the court; “Justice Ginsburg is resting comfortably and is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days.”

The progressive icon has survived a series of health scares in recent times. She also broke two ribs in a fall in 2012, has had two prior bouts with cancer and had a stent implanted to open a blocked artery in 2014. Despite the issues, Ginsburg has yet to miss a single day of oral arguments during her tenure.
Ginsburg’s health has been the source of a great deal of speculation regarding when she may retire. The fact that she has been reported to have hired clerks for the term that extends into 2020, indicates that she has no plans to leave under her own power.
Should Ginsburg be unable to outlast the Trump presidency, the president’s campaign promise to refocus the court towards originalist interpretation of the Constitution will become a reality.
